An Introduction to Urban Inline Skating

Urban inline skating is a discipline that merges aggressive and recreational skating. Urban skaters use aggressive maneuvers to travel through cities on a combination of streets, sidewalks and available structures to reach a destination using the shortest or fastest methods possible.

Urban inline skating is also called free skating or free riding and incorporates aggressive styled tricks including sliding, grinding and jumping. They use firm boots for good support like the aggressive skaters, short frames for maneuverability like slalom skaters use, but often need bigger wheels for a little more speed since they are really using these skates for transportation.

Like aggressive skating, safety and the use of
protective gear and protective clothing is recommended for this stunt based form of transportation. Loose jeans will allow unrestricted movement, and the denim fabric will provides an extra layer of protection from abrasions. These stunts, tricks, and maneuvers through the city will require a very advanced level of skating skills and a thorough knowledge of how to fall safely.

Urban inline skating is a great activity for young or young-at-heart thrill-seekers who can do it for recreation, transportation and a unique way to get away from urban traffic. It is important for urban skaters to know their own local laws governing traffic and safety issues for inline skaters, bikes and other human-powered vehicles.

An Introduction to Aggressive Inline Skating

Aggressive inline skating is a form of inline skating where stunts and tricks like jumps, grinds, slides and flips are the foundation for all of the skating maneuvers. Aggressive skaters slide on edges and ledges, jump over barriers, fly around and onto structures, rotate in the air like gymnasts and defy gravity in any way humanly possible. These maneuvers can be very dangerous, which is what gives this skating discipline an extreme, sometimes called "X," sport classification.

There are
three types of aggressive inline skating. Vert skating includes aerial stunts and maneuvers in a half pipe structure that becomes vertical at the top. Street skating is when city street, plaza and campus objects or architectural elements are used as skating surfaces and take-off points for aggressive tricks. Park skating uses special areas at indoor and outdoor skate parks for aggressive stunts.

Aggressive skating and safety are an unusual combination, so more attention should be given to the use of
protective gear for this stunt based sport. Skaters usually wear long loose jeans which look cool and allow unrestricted movement, but the heavy fabric weight also provides an extra layer of protection from abrasions. Special skates and boots have been developed to accommodate sliding the skate surface on rails and ledges. These stunts, tricks, and maneuvers require a very advanced level of skating skills and a thorough knowledge of how to fall safely to perform them properly and with some degree of safety.

Aggressive inline skating activities are attractive to younger skaters and thrill-seekers who do it for recreation or participate in extreme sports competitions.

An Introduction to Slalom Skating

Freestyle slalom skaters perform tricks, stunts and dance-like maneuvers around a straight line of equally spaced cones. This sport is good for skaters with rhythm and fast, precise footwork. Skaters choose freestyle slalom as their sport because it is fun and can be skated on a variety of surfaces as either a competitive or non-competitive activity.

Freestyle skating has four main elements:

Freestyle slalom can be done with inline skates or quad skates, but today the inline executions are the most popular. Beginners can learn on recreational skates with the heel brake removed, but will eventually need slalom skates. Keep rooling...

Are my Skates Too Big or Are my Skates Too Small?

Whether you just purchased a new set of inline skates or are skating on a set you have had for a year or more you may be asking yourself if your skates are too big or too small. These questions have become more and more of an evident concern with more skates being purchased online with the actual brick and mortar shops to buy skates becoming harder to find.

Inlineskates.com offers a wide range of guides for buying inline skates, sizing and more including videos from our experts and industry alumni. There you can learn how to size your skates initially and the differences in skates and the prices charged for skates but what if you already own skates? Here we will go over just how to tell if your skates are too big or too small and if you’re lucky enough to have the correct size.

How do your feet feel after you go skating?

A sure sign that something is amuck with your sizing is if after going out for a skate you feel pain or discomfort in your feet. Now, obviously if you have not skated in months you can count on a bit of general soreness.

If a Skates Too Small
If a skates too small you will end up with a wide range of undesirable outcomes. In adults wearing an inline skate that is too small will lead to blisters, ingrown toenails, calluses or a collapsed arch. All these things are going to be uncomfortable and lead to a bad skating experience.

Even worse with children wearing a skate that is too small as the cartilage to bone ratio in a child’s foot is going to weigh heavier on the cartilage side. This can cause a malformation in the foot which can lead to foot issues later on in life.

If a Skates Too Big
If your skates are too big, you will feel a world of hurt which will only end when you get the proper size skates. A skate that is too large will cause blisters, hammertoes, bunions or calluses which come from the constant irritation which in turn gives you constant foot pain.

With kids, parents will sometimes purchase a skate too big to give the skater some additional growing room. What usually happens is the parent puts an extra set of socks on their child or stuffs something in the front of the skates boot. Neither of these will result in a positive outcome; two socks will lead to sweaty feet that will move around the boot causing blisters and stuffing something in the front of the skates boot will cause the skates design to not adhere to where the foot is sitting which can cause blisters, pain and discomfort.

How Do I Tell if my Inline Skates Fit Properly?
As an adult you should be able to try the skates on and get a pretty good indication of how the skates feel which will give you indication to how they fit. Typically you can get a decent idea just from trying the skates on indoors and standing in them putting pressure down and by doing this you are not skating outdoors on them making them returnable in most situations. Do note that a pair of inline skates may break in roughly a half size from how they initially fit when you try them on. When you first try a skate on you should be able to just barely touch the front of the skates boot with your toes, not having your toes curled or crushed but barely grazing the front of the boot. Once the skates break in your foot will slide back into a perfect fit.

For kids you can easily do the pencil (or pen) test. As most all kids inline skates are now adjustable you may have to try this on a few different sizes to get the best fit possible. To perform the pencil fit test you will want to have the child put on the skates loosely and bend their leg forward which will give you access to the back of the foot in the skate. Slide the pencil behind the Childs foot. A good fit is one pencil width with no wiggle room for the pencil. If there is more/less room the skate is going to be too big or too small.

Manfaat Bermain Inline Skate/Sepatu Roda

Nah sekarang ane mau ngebahas tentang manfaat bermain sepatu roda.

1. Jantung menjadi sehat

Inline Skate Maintenance

Preventative Maintenance

The key to keeping your skates rolling and performing like the day you bought them is preventative maintenance. Preventative maintenance is nothing more than a few simple decisions on your part.

First, make sure you choose the right surfaces to skate on for the type of skate you own. Avoid skating through water, sand, mud, or any other type of material that can cause severe damage to your skates. The fewer opportunities your skates have to get dirty and collect debris, the longer they will continue to perform like the day you took them out of the box.

Second, if you want to avoid Stinky Skate Syndrome, make sure you select the appropriate sock to wear while skating. This should be a
thin athletic sock. If you wear thicker socks, the more moisture builds up and the more your skates will stink. Once Stinky Skate Syndrome sets in, there is not a lot you can do about it.

Restorative Maintenance

If you have slacked on the preventative maintenance but you want to get an old pair of under-performing skates back in top shape, you will need to conduct some restorative maintenance.
Restorative maintenance will require that you focus on 3 areas of your skates: Wheels, Bearings, and Brakes.

Wheels: Rotating inline
skate wheels
is an essential part of keeping skates performing well. Analyze the wheels of the skates you are looking to restore. If they are in good enough shape to keep, analyze them for a rotation.Bearings: Likely the key area to look when skates are under-performing. Bearings that are properly cleaned and lubricated will perform best. It is highly recommended that you remove the wheels from the frame and inspect the bearings for debris. Conduct a cleaning and lubrication before inserting them back into the wheel hub. Keep in mind that when servicing your bearings, there are two types of bearings you are likely to encounter. For a more thorough discussion on how to service and maintain your bearings, please review our article on skate bearing maintenance.

Brakes: Checking your
brake is a very important part of the inline skate restoration process as well. If you spend the time to make the skates go faster, you may just want to spend a bit of time making sure you can stop as well. Many brakes will have a recommended ‘wear-line’ that will help you determine how low you should allow your brake to wear down. We recommend that you do not wait until your brake gets to this line, but rather keep an eye on it and change it when you feel it becoming ineffective.

Free Skating and Urban Skating

New Rollerblading Trends

There is a new trend in inline skating and Rollerblading where skaters are zipping around urban environments in skates that look like a hybrid between recreational inline skates and aggressive skates. The reason the skates look like a hybrid mix is because the type of skating is actually very much a mix of recreational and aggressive skating. This type of skating is called urban skating or free skating and users wear
urban skates

while skating around the city sometimes performing tricks. The type of skating is brand new yet offers a lot of the same attributes as aggressive skating with the mobility and speed of recreational skating. Free skating and urban skating boast two different names but are very similar and can have users wearing the same skates for each type of skating.

The difference between free skating and urban skating

Although mostly similar there does seem to be a bit of difference between someone that does urban skating and free skating. Urban skaters tend to just use their skates to get from one place to another without doing tricks or skating obstacles along the way. Free skaters tend to do more aggressive skating inspired tricks and will skate obstacles when they come along. As the skates used for both styles of skating are urban style skates or Rollerblades you can really do both styles of skating and be considered a free skater and an urban skater or only stick to one style of skating.
If you find yourself doing more free skating than any other type of skating you may want to look into

powerblading which will offer you a slightly different frame style making it easier to grind objects.

Free skating skates and urban skates design

So, the type of skating is different and at first glance it’s easy to see that the skates or Rollerblades used for urban skating and free skating are a bit different. As you can see in the diagram below these skates offer a shorter frame typically made of a durable aluminum material with much larger wheels than found on standard aggressive skates. You also have a bit more streamlined skate boot but still get great padding and a slightly larger soul area to use for grinds and stalls. You also won’t find a lot of exposed buckles on these skates. This is by design so if you bump the skates while skating or doing a trick you have nothing that can easily break exposed on the skates.

Should you start urban skating or free skating?

There are a few characteristics that would make an urban or free skate right for someone. If you live in an urban city like Chicago a pair of urban skates will help you greatly as you can use them as another mode of transportation when you don’t feel like messing with mass transit. Like we stated above urban skates are going to offer you an easier to maneuver design making them safer for skating around the city. Urban and free skating is also really popular with aggressive skaters that either want something different to do or want some skates to use for transportation and for fun.

You will want to note that many urban skates are not pictured with brakes but will have them in the box with the skates when purchased. You will also find instructions on how to put the brakes onto the skates.

Inline Skating, Rollerblading, Skating? Is it all the Same?

So, you are an inline skater, or are you a rollerblader... There are many different ways to say you are a skater but it all comes to a similar end, you are one that enjoys skating with inline skates. They are inline skates, Rollerblade is a brand name, but we will cover that more in depth later. There are many variations of inline skating including hockey, aggressive skating, racing or simply skating around your neighborhood or park for fun and fitness. Here at Inlineskates.com we deal in all these various types of inline skates and are fairly well versed when it comes to the different terms that are associated with this great sport. In this article we will cover some of the most common misconceptions surrounding terms like Rollerblade and Rollerblading.

Rollerblade skates VS. Inline skates – Common worldwide misnomer

It seems more often than not inline skates are referred to as Rollerblades, inline skaters are referred to as Rollerbladers and inline skating is referred to as Rollerblading. This is a common misconception as Rollerblade itself is a brand of inline skates much like Kleenex is a brand of facial tissue but both these brands often become the term associated with all the other various brands. But there are many brands of inline skates including Rollerblade, K2, Roces, Bladerunner and more just as there are many brands of facial tissue including Kleenex, Marcal and Angel Soft. If you are wearing Rollerblade brand inline skates you could state you are out Rollerblading since you are wearing the namesake on your feet but, still, technically you are simply inline skating in a pair of Rollerblade skates.

Trademarked Term VS Generic Term

Although Rollerblade is a registered trademarked of Tecnica Group S.p.A, the Rollerblade parent company, it is commonly used interchangeably for all brands of inline skates. This happens a lot when one brand over runs an industry in the early stages of the popularity of the product. What can begin as a positive in brand recognition can become a cloud following the brand as it grows and surpasses its start up. Rollerblade has for the most part been lucky to embrace their name being generalized as a term for inline skates offering great skates year in and year out. And it really is this ability to continually make great inline skates brandishing the Rollerblade name that has given them the ability to have great longevity in the skating market.

Could all inline skates one day be called Rollerblades legitimately?

Right now K2 skates are called K2 inline skates and Rollerblades are called Rollerblade inline skates but could one day the correct term be K2 Rollerblades and Rollerblade Rollerblades? There is such a thing as Trademark Erosion which takes effect when a brand doesn’t do a good enough job to protect their name from becoming the common namesake for the product it represents. This has happened in select cases with some of the most recognizable being Aspirin, Kerosene, Thermos, The Escalator and The Zipper; all of which were once trademarked names from specific companies but have since lost their legal protection. This is most likely not going to happen with Rollerblade but you could one day see K2 Rollerblades or Roller Derby Rollerblades and it wouldn’t be incorrect.

As we see it, it doesn’t much matter what term is coined for inline skating because we are going to love the sport and have fun no matter what. So, call us inline skaters, skaters or Rollerbladers and we will continue to have a great time while skating.

Tips Membeli Inline Skate

  • Newbie (baru, ingin memulai)

anda ingin menjadi juara?”

Motto saya yaitu “Never try, Never be Good”

5. Berapa ukuran sepatu anda?

Pertanyaan terakhir yaitu “Berapa ukuran sepatu anda?”.

Tambahan+++

Type of Inline Skate

A Brief Overview of Inline Skates

You, or even people you know, may think that inline skating is simply strapping on a pair of skates and taking off. While this vague description is true, inline skating is in much more than that. Inline skates are offered in a number of different types, each with its own purpose. Among the different types of skates that you will come across are: recreational, fitness, roller hockey, and aggressive. For your convenience, here is a photo that points out the universal skate characteristics:
While the photo above may be of a recreational skate, the boot, wheels, and frame are essential traits of any skate, regardless of its type. The brake pictured on this skate is optional, meaning that it can be removed if desired. Brakes are typically only found on recreational and fitness skates. It is uncommon to find a brake on a roller hockey or aggressive skate. You may already know the skate type that is correct for you, but if you do not, the first question you must ask yourself to determine the skate type that is best for you is: What kind of inline skating will I be doing most? To help you answer this question, review the following sections that describe each of the inline skate types. Once you have done so, you should be able to determine the most appropriate skate type for you.

Recreational Inline Skates

The most popular type of inline skate is the recreational inline skate. Designed

for anyone
looking to simply go out and enjoy all that inline skating offers. This description itself is the closest you will get to the previously described, "strap on skates and take off." Recreational skates can be used for a quick skate around the neighborhood, a stroll down the local bike trail, or basic fitness. Unless you are in need of a specific skate type, a recreational skate is going to be the most likely selection for you. Recreational skates are offered in a variety of models, from a number of manufacturers, and for all level skaters. Skate materials, closure systems, and features will vary from skate to skate. Recreational skates will typically have a soft boot construction. This type of boot is constructed of reinforced mesh and cloth with hard plastic cuffs in the back for support. Soft boot construction allows for a more comfortable skate that is also lighter and more breathable. Back in the day, inline skates were constructed of uncomfortable, hard plastic shells. Over the years, this construction was abandoned in favor of the previously described soft boot style. Recreational skates will also feature a number of different closure systems. Standard lacing, ratchet buckles, and power assisted (quick lace) systems are some of the options you will see on recreational skates.

Fitness Inline Skates

Modern inline skates were originally designed for fitness training for ice hockey
players, by
ice hockey players. Today, fitness skates are designed specifically for those individuals who seek to utilize their skates for getting in shape, or skating very frequently. In a nutshell, fitness skates are high performance recreational skates. Their design is similar in practically every aspect, with the exception being that it is geared towards individuals who skate longer distances. Variances between recreational and fitness skates exist in the bearings, wheel size, and overall weight. Fitness skates will typically have faster bearings and larger wheels to generate speed for lengthy skates. Additionally, skate weight is lower for this same reason. Fitness skate boots will likely be more comfortable due to liner construction, as well as circulate air better via ventilation differences. Fitness skates offer numerous advantages when it comes to exercise, most notably, it is not boring! Skating is a fast-paced, exciting activity that offers a lot more than your treadmill or yoga ball will. Furthermore, fitness skating is a low impact activity that will generate little wear-and-tear on your joints and bones. Also, fitness skating can burn as many calories as running. The list of benefits is long, but the bottom line is that inline skating is a great fitness activity. If you plan on using your skates to get in shape via long, fast skating adventures, then fitness skates are likely the best option for you.

Roller Hockey Inline Skates

At the risk of pointing out the obvious, Roller Hockey skates are designed for…
wait for it…hockey. Roller Hockey is one of the fastest growing sports for people of all ages and as a result, roller hockey skates have become immensely popular. This however isn't a huge surprise when you factor in that the popularity of inline skates is attributed to two hockey players. Their desire to train for ice hockey when ice was not readily available has evolved into a sport for all ages and genders a global level. Roller hockey is a fast paced, high energy game that requires less equipment with more action than ice hockey! Most local indoor roller rinks offer roller hockey leagues for every one.
The design of roller hockey skates is very similar to ice hockey skates. Boots are made with reinforced leather and stitching, with some using additional material such as carbon fiber or plastic to enhance the boot. The fit and feel is also similar to an ice hockey skate, so the transition for ice hockey players is practically seamless. Most roller hockey frames are made of airplane grade aluminum that provides increased durability and a lower weight.

One unique feature that is found on roller hockey skates exists in the wheel setup. This unique setup is commonly referred to as a "High-Lo" setup and requires the back two wheels to use a larger diameter wheel than the front two. The purpose behind this design is to put a hockey player in the leaning forward position naturally, in-turn providing increased maneuverability and speed. Additionally, it gives the skater the acceleration of small wheels and speed of larger wheels. Roller hockey skates usually come with bearings designed for speed and acceleration, so if they are ABEC rated, they will be on the higher end of the scale. All roller hockey stakes use a standard lacing system for closure. Typically, this closure system will utilize hockey laces that are also found on ice hockey skates. This form of closure system is used to ensure a tight and comfortable fit, which is essential for roller hockey players who are routinely accelerating and turning. Keep in mind that roller hockey skates, like ice hockey skates, require a break-in period. During this break-in period roller hockey skates will be stiff and uncomfortable. Do not let this be a deterrent from using them as the more you use them, the faster they will break-in and the better they will feel. The design of roller hockey skates is to provide superior maneuverability, quick acceleration and high speed, strong ankle support, and a lightweight skate to constant skating and quick turning. If you're interested in playing roller hockey, or you are an ice hockey player interested in a way to train during the off-season, this is the skate type that you will want to select.

Racing Inline Skates

For the serious skater who is looking for competition and fitness, racing skates offer thebest of both worlds. Racing skates are the fastest skates available due to the use of advanced inline skating technology. The purpose of their design is simple: Go Fast! If you're interested in a simple stroll around the neighborhood this isn't the option for you. Racing skates are very lightweight, have bearings ranked highly on the ABEC rating scale, or they are Titanium, Ceramic, or Swiss. They also utilize a maximum of five wheels chassis setup and no brake. Boots design is much like a shoe with a soft boot reinforced with carbon fiber. Additionally, the cuff is lower because a taller boot means more weight. Wheels are typically very large in diameter to give the racer more speed and better acceleration. Also, the frame of a racing is made of either carbon fiber or aluminum to further reduce the skate weight and increase skating performance. When it comes to racing skates, the bottom line is that they designed for speed and nothing else. They are very efficient, lightweight, and smooth, with the sole purpose of getting the skater from point A to point B faster than anyone else.

Urban Skates/Street Skates

In recent years, a new skate type has gained in popularity. Urban skates, also referred to as Street skates, are essentially a hybrid of Recreational and Aggressive style skates. Skates found in this category offer the look and feel of an Aggressive style skate with the functionality for longer skating ventures, like a Recreational skate. Urban skates feature a wheel and bearing setup like one you would expect to find on a recreational skate (wheels 82mm or larger), but a boot design that can withstand tricks, jumps, and whatever other type of beating you want to throw at it while you're skating down the street. To aid in faster and easier cornering the frames on urban skates are shortened so you get the speed of the larger wheels but the ease of cornering a shorter frame. These skates often come without a brake attached but the brake system will typically be found in the box and be easily attached.
